Event Description:

The Spirit of Sepharad, Gerard Edery Ensemble performance.

“The Spirit of Sepharad” is a powerful multidisciplinary program of song, dance, and instrumental music that traces the unique migration of Jewish Sephardim communities from medieval Spain across Africa to the Middle East, the Balkans, and beyond.

Gerard Edery has put together a program with flamenco dancer and singer Bárbara Martínez, flamenco guitarist Cristian Puig, and bassist-percussionist Sean Kupisz that combines music, dance, narration, and vivid projected images, creating a complex web of diverse poetic, religious, and cultural traditions that focuses on common patterns and multicultural cosmopolitan art forms.

In Edery’s words, “This is the story of a rich cultural heritage that invites the possibility of coexistence, tolerance, respect, and peace among all peoples.” The expressive vocal traditions, flamenco-style guitar, virtuoso bass, and world-beat percussion make this evening a most powerful emotional experience for the audience and performers.
