Vladimir Gandelsman - Russian Poet

Event Description:
Vladimir Arkadyevich Gandelsman is the author of twenty books of poetry in Russian. Born in 1948 in Leningrad, he worked as an engineer, a night watchman, a stoker, a guide, and a porter in a beauty salon on Nevsky Prospekt before emigrating to the United States in 1990. He taught Russian at Vassar College and continues to teach Russian language and literature in the New York area. One of the most renowned Russophone poets in the United States, Gandelsman will present a selection of his poetry accompanied by English translations by various translators. Dr. Olga Livshin, who is at work on a book of translations of Gandelsman’s poetry, will read the English versions and will translate questions and answers.
