Event Description:
Asian Heritage Month, in collaboration with DESHI and SOCA, is excited to invite Professor Viranjini Munasinghe, a historical anthropologist at Cornell,
to give a talk this Saturday, 4/22 from 4-6pm in the IC!

Not 3 But 4 Continents: Asians in the Americas
What is the relationship between ethnic/minority identity and national identity? Professor Munasinghe will present her research on the political and cultural struggle waged by Indo-Trinidadians to redefine the national identity in Trinidad and Tobago. Part of this movement was the previously "unthinkable" election of the first prime minister of East Indian heritage in 1995. She will also compare Indo-Trinidadian struggles with those of Asian immigrants and citizens in the U.S.
