Publishing Open Access Books
Start Date: 10/24/2017Start Time: 4:00 PM
End Date: 10/24/2017End Time: 5:30 PM
Event Description:
In honor of International Open Access Week (http://www.openaccessweek.org/), the libraries will be hosting a remote presentation on current initiatives in publishing open access books.

There are a growing number of initiatives, publishers, and economic models for publishing open access books, but the question of sustainability of these models remains. This live presentation will include panelists from the Association of American University Presses, Lever Press, Knowledge Unlatched, Luminos, and University of Ottawa Press. Panelists will discuss their initiative, their editorial review process, their funding model, and their perspectives on the future of open access monographs.

A Q&A period will follow, moderated by Kevin Smith, the Dean of Libraries at the University of Kansas. Questions can be submitted ahead of time using this form: https://goo.gl/forms/l15RSSp6gcMXPdnP2

Light refreshments will be provided!

*What is "open access"?
Open access (OA) is the free, immediate, online availability of research or resources coupled with the rights to reuse these resources fully in the digital environment.

*Why does open access matter?
Making resources openly accessible removes the barrier of cost in the pursuit of knowledge. Open access can raise the visibility of research, improve public health, facilitate collaboration among researchers, and enable global participation in research.
