Hans Lüdemann: TRIO IVOIRE

Event Description:
Hans Lüdemann TRIO IVOIRE
Aly Keita - Christian Thomé

TRIO IVOIRE returns to Swarthmore after their celebrated concerts 5 years ago, presenting the program of their current CD "Timbuktu".

TRIO IVOIRE (Hans Lüdemann, Swarthmore's 2015-16 Cornell Visiting Professor, piano; Aly Keita, balaphon; Christian Thomé, drums and electronics) melts personal roots of African, European and Jazz traditions and unites African balafon with piano, drums and electronics to create a contemporary sound that is without comparison. This has little to do with traditional African music, but much with finding artistic expression in a globalized reality. Seeking to transport traditional African instruments into the modern world, while also looking for new ways of expression in piano and Jazz music on the other, two worlds that often seem far apart approach one another. The result is a uniquely personal expression of our time.

The album "Timbuktu" was selected among the albums of the year 2014 by "" and nominated for the ECHO Jazz award 2015.
