Raghu Karnad '05 Book Talk: The Farthest Field
Start Date: 10/29/2015Start Time: 4:30 PM
End Date: 10/29/2015End Time: 6:30 PM
Event Description:
Raghu Karnad '05, an award-winning writer and journalist living between Delhi and Bangalore, will discuss his breakout book "Farthest Field: An Indian Story of the Second World War." The book has received glowing praise on NPR and in myriad media outlets including Times of India, the Financial Times, Los Angeles Review of Books, and many others.
"Farthest Field narrates the lost epic of India’s war, in which the largest volunteer army in history fought for the British Empire, even as its countrymen fought to be free of it. It carries us from Madras to Peshawar, Egypt to Burma – unfolding the saga of a young family amazed by their swiftly changing world, and swept up in its violence."
Karnad will describe the process of historical research that informed his writing, as well as the events that led him to undertake his project.
After the talk and Q&A, participants are welcome to enjoy a buffet dinner with Karnad catered by Sher-E-Punjab (Media, PA).
