MEET ME ON THE MARGINS: Redefining Progress and Prosperity in America's Rust Belt
Start Date: 2/16/2015Start Time: 4:30 PM
End Date: 2/16/2015End Time: 6:00 PM

Event Description:
What is meaningful work for college graduates in this economy? What does it mean to make a difference in a state of political gridlock? Must you move to a big city and choose between selling out, grad school, and wage slavery?
Jesse Marshall '11 is a founding member of Margination, a network of cooperative businesses and supportive community in Troy, NY. He'll give some background on the comprehensive approach his team is developing, and talk about the conditions that make Troy and communities like it ripe for cooperative renaissance. He'll talk about his own trajectory between Swarthmore, Chester and Troy, and invite a conversation about how students and faculty can plug into the effort to rebuild inclusive, local economies.
This event is sponsored by the Lang Center for Civic and Social Responsibility, the Engaging Democracy Program, and Environmental Justice.
