The Literature of Violence: La literature de la violencia

Event Description:
Dr. Fernando Cueto Chavarria will discuss the relationship between literature and violence in Peru over the last few decades. He will entertain questions about his own novelistic production dealing with the rise and fall of the Shining Path, a guerrilla movement in Peru between 1980 and 1990. Prof. Christopher Fraga, Assistant Professor of Anthropology, will translate for Dr. Cueto. A reception will follow

Dr. Cueto Chavarria, visiting professor, poet, and writer, is the recipient of the Cope International Prize, organized by Petroperu, to recognize and reward the most important literary figure nationally for his 2011 book, That Way There. Other novels by Dr. Cueto include: Cry Heart, Days of Fire, and Boat Varada.
