Film Screening of Kafee Morgentau and Discussion with Wolfgang Bongers
Start Date: 4/20/2015Start Time: 1:15 PM
End Date: 4/20/2015End Time: 3:00 PM
Event Description:
This experimental documentary, Kafee Morgentau is a work in progress. It proposes to recover and highlight the different layers of individual and collective memories that are woven around the house located on Campo de Deportes 817, in the neighborhood Barrio Estadio, Santiago de Chile.

The images and sounds of the film are concentrated in the house´s spaces, the big garden and the enormous subterranean constructions. The property is a reflex of various aspects of the recent social and political history of Chile: initially owned by a high-class family, it was sold to Colonia Dignidad believing on the supposedly benevolent actions of this German group settled in Chile. Instead, Colonia Dignidad actively participated in the violation of human rights carried out by the military dictatorship using the house as one of its operation bases.

Thought as an audiovisual collage, the documentary follows a spatial logic that centers on passages and contrasts between the up/down, inside/outside, open/close. It combines archive material, audio-visual recordings, interviews, and literary quotes that also talk about other private houses transformed in detention and torture centers during the dictatorship.
