Calling all advocates! Win money for your cause.
Start Date: 1/30/2014 All Day
End Date: 2/12/2014

Event Description:
Are you passionate about a social problem which could have a legislative solution? Want to win money for your cause?

Debating for Democracy (D4D) can help you publicly highlight an issue you care about. You could also win $500 to fund advocacy or education activities (for instance, lobbying and workshops).

All you need to do is write a persuasive letter to an elected official and submit it to Jennifer Magee by **Wednesday, February 12**.

Here’s how D4D works:

(1) To participate, groups of students (that is, two or more first year, sophomore and/or junior students) should write an original letter to an elected official on any state or federal issue – following the guidelines found on our webpage: The letter can be approximately 1,200 words in length (excluding footnotes).

(2) Submit your letter via email to by Wednesday, February 12, 2014.

(3) Swarthmore College will select up to four letters to forward to D4D for competition. If D4D selects your letter, the competition winners will receive a $500 award to use towards advancing the issue addressed in your letter.
