Event Description:
Swarthmore Board Member and entrepreneur Joe Turner '73 will discuss career planning and how to weave in an interest in starting and building companies, including the characteristics of the successful entrepreneur and the "typical" process of creating a high-potential start-up. Since 2007, Mr. Turner has served as a professional independent board member, currently serving on the boards of directors of four public and one private biotech firm. He has previously served on the boards of an additional six biotech companies; three of these companies were sold, two failed, and one changed directions (and fired its board). From 1992 to 2007, Mr. Turner was an entrepreneurial CFO, working in three early stage biotechnology companies, all of which he took into the public markets.
