The New Sanctuary Movement: Promise or Peril?

Event Description:

Join us for a panel discussion on the historical and theological roots of “sanctuary” as well as an exploration of the various methods to provide it in times of social and political insecurity.  

Professor Emerita Aurora Camacho de Schmidt, Swarthmore Spanish and Latin American Studies Program, will provide opening comments. Professor Mark Wallace, Swarthmore Religion Department, will facilitate a conversation, with questions from area congregations and college community members, with Associate Professor Lee Smithey, Swarthmore Peace and Conflict Studies Program, and Peter Pedemonti, Director of the New Sanctuary Movement in Philadelphia.
