Rock in the Red Zone

End Date: 4/14/2016End Time: 10:30 PM

Event Description:
Rock in the Red Zone, a new film by Laura Bialis, focuses on real people who aren’t right- or left-wing – in fact, the only thing they share is that they were on the receiving end of rocket barrages fired from Palestinians in Gaza over the course of many years, and that for solace, they turned to music. Rock in the Red Zone is a personal view from the ground in Sderot, Israel, and an exploration into the lives of musicians creating in a conflict zone.

Other notable films by Bialis include the critically acclaimed Refusenik, which chronicles the 30-year international human rights campaign to free Soviet Jewry; View From the Bridge: Stories From Kosovo; and Tak For Alt: Survival of the Human Spirit, the story of Holocaust survivor, Judy Meisel, Civil Rights activist. Bialis holds a B.A. in History from Stanford University, and an M.F.A. in Production from the USC School of Cinema Arts. She serves as executive director of Foundation for Documentary Projects, a non-profit organization.
