Event Description:
Homay King will discuss her new book Virtual Memory: Time-based Art and the Dream of Digitality and the new framework it offers for thinking about film, video, and contemporary time-based art practices, and present a brief excerpt from a work in progress, "Notes on Some Forms of Repetition."

King is Professor of History of Art at Bryn Mawr College. She received her Ph.D. from the Department of Rhetoric at the University of California, Berkeley. She is the author of Lost in Translation: Orientalism, Cinema, and the Enigmatic Signifier (Duke, 2010) and Virtual Memory: Time-based Art and the Dream of Digitality (Duke, 2015). Her essays on film, contemporary art, and theory have appeared in Afterall , Criticism , Discourse , Film Quarterly , October , Qui Parle , and elsewhere—most recently, the Metropolitan Museum of Art catalog for China: Through the Looking Glass . She is a member of the Camera Obscura editorial collective.
