Faculty Lecture - Keith Reeves: Black Incarcerated Lives Matter, Too
Start Date: 4/27/2016Start Time: 5:00 PM
End Date: 4/27/2016End Time: 6:30 PM

Event Description:
Keith Reeves (Prof. of Political Science)
"Black Incarcerated Lives Matter, Too."

The Black Lives Matter Movement has aptly raised the national conscientiousness about both the injuries and deaths of African Americans at the hands of the police. But the Movement also has drawn attention to the deep public outrage concerning hundreds of thousands of African Americans incarcerated in the nation’s jails and prisons.

In this lecture, Professor Keith Reeves draws on several years of in-depth field research and never-before-seen incarceration data to shed light on why so many African Americans are imprisoned; and the enormous toll exacted from families and neighborhoods. And he will discuss the structural basis and implications of this deeply troubling aspect of racial inequality.
