New Perspectives on Motion Processing
Start Date: 4/5/2016Start Time: 4:15 PM
End Date: 4/5/2016End Time: 5:30 PM

Event Description:
Alex Huk '96, Associate Professor in the Department of Neuroscience and Center for Perceptual Systems at University of Texas at Austin, will present the dorsal stream of primates as a model system for understanding rich aspects of sensorimotor integration and neural coding. Building off classic work that has characterized the neural encoding and perception of very simple types of motion.  Huk will also describe his work in attempting to learn more about how the brain extracts three-dimensional velocities from retinal input primitives, how it forms perceptual decisions given richly multiplexed neural representations, and how it functions in naturalistic behavioral and perceptual contexts that do not require allegiance to conventional laboratory tasks and frameworks.

Alex Huk is also a Graduate Advisor of the Institute for Neuroscience PhD Program, and Interim Director of the Imaging Research Center at the University of Texas at Austin.
