"Becoming Jonathan Franzen: A Writer's Odyssey" Faculty talk by Philip Weinstein, Alexander Griswold Cummins Professor of English The award-winning novels of Jonathan Franzen, who graduated from Swarthmore in 1981, have made him a household name in American letters, the epitome of literary and intellectual excellence, and the face on the cover of Time. His novels are The Twenty-Seventh City, Strong Motion, The Corrections, and Freedom. Professor Weinstein discusses Franzen's life and works, which are brilliantly satiric and deeply moving, both challenging yet compelling.
