End Date: 4/14/2013End Time: 9:30 PM

Event Description:
Founded in 1988 in Philadelphia by James Freeman, the Daniel Underhill Professor Emeritus of Music, Orchestra 2001 has become Swarthmore's ensemble-in-residence, integrating teaching and contemporary music. The musical program represents a day of triumph and glory for mankind and, at the same time, a day of horror and infamy for the world. Orchestra 2001 pairs George Crumb's mesmerizing musing on the Apollo moon landing with Henryk Gorecki's famous, heart-rending requiem on the agonies and suffering of World War II. George Crum, "Night of the Four Moons," Ann Crum, mezzo-soprano Henryk Gorecki, "Symphony No. 3 (Sorrowful Songs)," Tamara Matthews, soprano
