The Hobbit: a talk with Ben Goossen '13 about his award-winning collection
Start Date: 4/18/2013Start Time: 4:14 PM
End Date: 4/18/2013End Time: 5:14 PM

Event Description:

Whether reading The Hobbit on a mountaintop with a storm brewing, or cozily at home with the kettle beginning to whistle, Ben Goossen's interpretation of all things hobbit is sure to enlighten. First introduced to J. R. R. Tolkien's iconic work at the age of seven in a garbled audio production, Goossen went on to begin illustrating the story in the fifth grade and continues to reread and illustrate every year.

Receiving first place in the 2013 A. Edward Newton Student Book Collection competition for his collection, The Hobbit: a journey from Tolkien to us... and back again, and a cash prize of $600, Ben Goossen ’13 enters the annals of Newton history. He has won a Newton award every year for the past three years with his other collections, including three first prizes: The Literary Evolution of Science Fiction (2010), The Art of N.C. Wyeth (2011) and Books of Mennonite History (2012)
