End Date: 4/21/2017End Time: 9:00 PM

Event Description:
GLSEN's Day of Silence is a student-led national event organized in thousands of schools, bringing awareness to the silencing effects of anti-LGBTQ name-calling, bullying and harassment in schools. Students from middle school to college take a vow of silence in an effort to encourage schools and classmates to address the problem of anti-LGBTQ behavior by illustrating the silencing effect of bullying and harassment on LGBTQ students and those perceived to be LGBTQ.

Andrea Gibson is not gentle with their truths. It is this raw fearlessness that has led them to the forefront of the spoken word movement– the first winner of the Women’s World Poetry Slam —Gibson has headlined prestigious performance venues coast to coast with powerful readings on war, class, gender, bullying, white privilege, sexuality, love, and spirituality.

Andrea Gibson is an award-winning American poet and activist from Calais, Maine. Gibson's poetry focuses on gender norms, politics, social reform and the struggles LGBTQ people face in today's society.

Andrea will perform spoken word as the end event for Day of Silence.
