Since its formation in 1987, it has earned high praise from critics and audiences alike for its superb musicianship and memorable performances, including those with guest artists Emanuel Ax, Yefm Bronfman, Christoph Eschenbach, Alicia de Larrocha, Wolfgang Sawallisch and Yo-Yo Ma.\u003cbr /\u003e\r\n\u003cbr /\u003e\r\nThe Quartet has recorded for Direct-to-Tape Records; its frst CD was nominated for a Grammy. It is the core ensemble of 1807 & Friends, whose recording on the Direct-to-Tape label, “Te Philadelphia Connection,” features the Wister Quartet’s highly acclaimed performance of the Samuel Barber String Quartet.\u003cbr /\u003e\r\n\u003cbr /\u003e\r\nNancy Bean Joined The Philadelphia Orchestra in 1983 and was its Assistant Concertmaster for 23 years before retiring in 2009 to devote herself to chamber music. She is Artistic Director of 1807 & Friends chamber ensemble, director of The Liberty String Orchestra, and violinist with Duo Parisienne and Duo Paganini, the Barnard Trio, the Florian Trio, Trio Montage, and the Amerita Chamber Players.\u003cbr /\u003e\r\n\u003cbr /\u003e\r\nDavyd Booth has been a violinist and keyboard player in The Philadelphia Orchestra since 1973 and was named its harpsichordist in 1999. He was a member of the Philarte Quartet for 14 years; he is Co-Director and harpsichordist of the Amerita Chamber Players, violinist and pianist with 1807 & Friends chamber ensemble, and pianist of the Barnard Trio.\u003cbr /\u003e\r\n\u003cbr /\u003e\r\nPamela Fay has been a member of the Vancouver and Toronto Symphonies and was assistant principal viola of the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Canada. In addition to being a regular substitute with the Philadelphia Orchestra, she is violist of 1807 & Friends, the Amerita Chamber Players, the Philly Pops and the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia.\u003cbr /\u003e\r\n\u003cbr /\u003e\r\nLloyd Smith joined The Philadelphia Orchestra in 1967. Named Assistant Principal cellist in 1988, he retired in 2003 to devote himself to chamber music and composing. He is the cellist of 1807 & Friends chamber ensemble, the Florian Trio, Trio Montage, the Barnard Trio and the Amerita Chamber Players. His compositions include two string quartets, a string quintet, a cello sonata, a piano quartet, and a cello sextet.
